Debra said the family had gone to Florida in May and all Myalia wanted to do was go to the Bippity Boppity Boutique, a little girl salon.
They sent Myalia’s picture to this Star Five pageant place, asking if she would like to enter, Debra said. She’s now into ballet and loves to perform. She’s photogenic and has an unbelievable stage presence.
The Durnos debated the move, not wanting to produce another Jon Benet Ramsey.
We kept her 100 percent natural, no make-up and no glamour (touches). We didn’t want her to have anything to make her look older than she is, Debra said. We didn’t expect anything. I told her it’s not about winning and losing. I told her it was for fun. She’s been counting the days.
One of the judges, Joe Freeman from Dynasty Modeling and Talent of Newberry Street, Boston, wants me to contact him, which is shocking. He had wanted to speak to her before she had won anything, Debra said.
Debra was surprised Myalia didn’t want her up on stage, like the other moms. Most of the kids were screaming and looking at their feet but Myalia was doing a little ballet bow, walking the runway and blowing kisses when asked.
She won prettiest hair, and the entire pageant. All I could do was cry, remembering when we brought her home, Debra said.
Now she runs the house. She’s unbelievable, and what comes out of her mouth is even more so. The other day she said ‘Mom, do you know the purple balloon is semi-transparent and the white one is transparent? The semi-transparent one you can see through a little.’ These things just come out of her mouth. She’s only 5, Debra said. Her vocabulary is unreal.
Myalia is still Pepperell’s little girl, talking up a storm to people she meets when her mom and dad take her to the gas station or the grocery store.
Modelling agencies are looking for photoshoot from Myalia.
Now she’s an all-American beauty, too.
